Brilliant Craft Storage Ideas from the Thrift Store
Organizational products can get EXPENSIVE. Especially when you’re organizing a craft room.
Sometimes they’re worth the extra dough. But most times, I would say they’re not.
Luckily, you don’t have to spend an arm and a leg on fancy organizers and shelving! You can organize an entire craft room with just things found at the thrift store.
Today I’m sharing with you some of my favorite craft storage ideas from the thrift store. Most of these left me thinking, “Why didn’t I think of that?!“
Up first is one of my own thrifted projects for my craft room/blogging office. I see accordion wood peg racks at thrift stores constantly. I was using this one as a mug hanger in our old house, but with a fresh coat of paint I gave it new life as my washi tape organizer!
The next few ideas are from some of my favorite fellow DIY and thrifty bloggers:
Brilliant Craft Storage Ideas from the Thrift Store
Craft Paint Organizer
These spice racks can be seen at practically every thrift store. I’ve personally given one a makeover for my k-cups, but I never thought to use it as a craft paint organizer!
Spice Rack Idea for Craft Storage / Craft Organizer
Here’s another use for a thrifted spice rack. This one came with the jars, which makes the project super easy. It’s perfect for organizing all those little bits and bobbles like buttons.
DIY Paper Organizer Made from Repurposed Shutters
I pretty much always keep my eye out for old shutters at the thrift store. I have not yet come across any, I’m pretty sure everyone else is in search of them, too 😉 Using one as a paper holder is such a perfect way to keep everything you have visible. Paper is one of those things that can easily get out of hand when you’re a crafter.
Buffet Yarn Storage Makeover
This is such an impressive makeover, I would never have imagined that an old hutch could turn into such a beautiful yarn storage unit! I don’t have NEARLY this much yarn to organize, but if your main craft is knitting or crochet this project could be right up your alley.
Picture Frame Thread Organization
If there’s one thing that thrift stores always have plenty of, it’s frames. This tutorial for a thread organizer made from a thrifted picture frame looks pretty easy, and cute!
DIY Picnic Basket Sewing Storage
Picnic baskets are another commonly found thrift store item. At least they have been for me in the past. Of course now that I say that, I’ll probably never see one again 😉 Anyways, this picnic basket turned into mobile craft supply organizer is incredibly adorable AND useful!
Iron Rack Makeover
Here’s another “why didn’t I think of that?” idea. Hooks and hangers usually abound at the thrift store, give one a coat of paint and you’ve got a nifty craft scissors organizer.
DIY Teacup Pin Cushion
This next one is something I really need for myself! I’m constantly losing my sewing pins. This teacup turned pincushion tutorial is not only easy, it makes for some pretty cute storage!
Crib Mattress Spring Craft Storage Makeover
Seeing this clever use for a crib mattress spring support makes me wish I had kept my daughter’s! This gives you a lot of hanging options for craft storage. The possibilities are practically endless!
The next time you’re out thrifting, you’ll definitely want to keep your eyes open for inspiration! You never know what might pop out as the next best way to organize your craft supplies…
