The Denver House: Mood Board
When it became real that the Denver House would be our future home, I began to realize that my current decor might not fit. It’s not that my tastes are completely changing, they’re just evolving. Kind of like when I evolved from a giant poster of Johnny Depp smoking a cigarette and playing the piano hanging over my living room couch in my apartment.
I will always have a love of color and eclectic vintage treasures, but the new house called for a whisper of those things instead of it shouting at you from the minute you walk into the front door. I put together a mood board to help me organize all of my ideas for our new home.
Overall color scheme
In order to keep a cohesive feel for the house, since it’s already pretty matchy-matchy with all new gray paint AND gray carpet throughout the entire thing, I came up with a color palette to play off of in each room. I found one of my old Pinterest pins that was exactly the look I was going for: gray with pops of aqua and plum.
Fuzzy, cozy textiles
Even though the colors in the palette are on the cool side, I still wanted the house to have a warm feel. Enter the fuzzy blankets, pillows, and rugs! One of the first DIY projects I’ve got in my arsenal is for a DIY faux fur rug. I don’t know what I’m more excited about: living in a new house or doing projects for a new house!
Geometric patterns with pops of color
I’m not much of a floral person. I have always been drawn to the clean lines of geometric patterns, I guess they appeal to the minimalist in me 😉 Along with the pops of color, I’m going to bring in geometric details. I’ve already got some pretty spiffy geometric throw pillows I bought from Ikea just waiting for the new home.
White and dark wood
No more builder grade oak, yippee! Luckily the furniture that we already own is either painted white or stained dark. I’ve never liked the look of light wood, so when we toured the Denver House and I spotted the dark wood floors and freshly painted white trim I was immediately in love with it.
Furniture/accessories in accent colors
I can’t stay totally away from color. With gray walls and carpet, I know I’ll be craving pops of color somewhere. I’ve always wanted a turquoise/aqua wing back chair and now I’ve finally got the space for it!
White linens
When we staged our main bathroom for selling with fluffy, white towels I really liked the appeal. They just look so clean and bright. Plus, I’m hoping with the help of Oxiclean and bleach, they’re easier to keep clean and bright than other colors.
If you’re looking for a way to define your style, whether it be interior design or even your blog design, a mood board is a great way to come up with a cohesive plan!
