Easy DIY Shopkins Storage & Organization Tutorial
I find them everywhere: the living room, the kitchen, even the BATHROOM. I’m talking about rogue Shopkins. They’re super cute, but they sure do find a way to migrate throughout the house and end up everywhere except where they belong. I was in serious need of a Shopkins storage solution.
It’s been especially important to find homes for Bean’s Shopkins since she got Moose Toy’s new Happy Places Shopkins! They come with Petkins that go together, like a little toothbrush holder complete with some even tinier toothbrushes all with an adorable little face.  Or a coin purse and an itty bitty coin. Look at how teeny-tiny (and super cute) they get…
The Happy Places collector packs also come with tiles so that kids can set up and decorate their own little Happy Places add-on rooms. Bean had so much fun, I could hear her playing and giving voices to the Petkins as she placed them in their rooms. It was adorable 🙂 I love that these encourage her to use her imagination and play creatively!
But I digress…
During one leisurely trip to the thrift store while Bean was at school, I had a genius idea. IÂ used to use tackle boxes to organize my arts and crafts supplies as a kid. Why not Shopkins? The tackle box at the thrift store that inspired me was disgusting, so it was off to the home improvement store.
In my search for a tackle box, I found something even better. A hardware organizer! It had plenty of little drawers perfect for organizing little Shopkins. It also had a few bigger drawers to store the bigger Shopkins items like shopping bags and tiles.
The only unfortunate thing, it was black and gray. So not cute. Nothing a little spray paint can’t fix 🙂
Easy DIY Shopkins Storage & Organizer
You’ll need…
- Metal hardware organizer with clear plastic drawers
- Spray paint
- Optional: foam sticker letters
STEP ONE
Remove the plastic drawers and set them aside.
STEP TWO
Spray the shelves with VERY THIN coats of spray paint. If I were to do this again, I would probably take the time to spray with primer first. The spray paint I was using had primer in it, but because the shelves were slippery metal it dripped REALLY easily at first. Just ask my husband (hehe).
STEP THREE
Label the organizer with foam sticker letters. I placed them lightly at first so that I could line them up (perfectionist probs) and once I had them where I wanted them I pressed them harder.
It’s so much cuter pink, right? I am very happy with the outcome. My OCD self felt so pleased to organize all of the teeny tiny little Petkins and Shopkins into color-coordinated drawers.
The larger drawers on the bottom held the Happy Places tiles and Lil’ Â Shoppies. It also had room for some Shopkins shopping baskets.
I am 100% pleased with how well this worked for organizing the Shopkins. You can easily make one for the little Shopkins fan in your house. Or, better yet, be a lifesaver and gift one to the mom friend in your life with a house full of Shopkins 😉

I feel your pain and love this idea! There is so many different applications for this kind of storage container: Barbies, legos, craft supplies, beads….I need one for each one of the different toy types that my daughter loves to play with! My daughter’s also getting to the age where she wants to be the organizer. There have been days where I have organized an area and she will “reorganize” the area a few days later. Usually not the way I want it, but glad that she practicing and trying her hand at organizing!
I feel ya, my daughter is at the same age! She’s really into lining things up as well. Luckily, she’ll help if I give her some direction as far as organizing goes 🙂
This is great! Organizing the toys is top on my list for 2017.
Glad to help 🙂
