It all started on a trip to visit my brother, who was at the time going to school up in Grand Forks, North Dakota. “This candy store is famous for it’s chocolate covered potato chips.”
Say WHAT?! I’m a huge fan of anything sweet and salty, especially when it involves chocolate. But for some reason a chocolate covered potato chip seemed a bit off. But I wasn’t NOT going to try it…
I FELL IN LOVE.
And I haven’t stopped thinking about how to make something like it myself since. I knew it couldn’t be that hard, it’s just potato chips dipped in chocolate, right? Um, yeah. That’s all it is!
With all of the big football games happening this time of year, I decided to take my chocolate covered potato chips experiment to the next level and turn them into FOOTBALL chocolate covered potato chips 🙂 These are the perfect addition to your football party food spread!
Football Party Food: Chocolate Covered Potato Chip Footballs
INGREDIENTS
- Cape Cod® Potato Chips
- Semi-Sweet Chocolate Chips (or milk chocolate, but I’m a dark chocoholic)
- White Chocolate Chips
STEP ONE
Melt your chocolate chips with your desired method. I am far too impatient to use a double boiler, so I like to melt mine in a microwave in 15 second intervals on high. You have to pay VERY close attention when you’re doing it this way or you’ll burn the chocolate. It’s disgusting (I learned that the hard way).
STEP TWO
Get ready to get messy! Grab some wax paper and roll it out. Hand-dip each chip one at a time in the chocolate until it’s covered in a thin layer.
STEP THREE
Melt the white chocolate chips using your desired method. I used the microwave again. Once melted, pour it into a ziploc baggie with the end snipped off. This is going to be your “piping bag”.
STEP FOUR
Draw the stitching on the chocolate dipped chips. Work fast, the white chocolate likes to set up quickly.
STEP FIVE
Let the chocolate-covered chips dry and harden for about 15-20 minutes. If you want to speed up the process, you can slip them in the fridge. Once they set up, they’re ready to be served!
I had some chocolate left over, and because one sweet and salty treat just wasn’t enough, I made some chocolate drizzled pretzel rods as well. Y-U-M.
“My team” (I say that loosely because it really hurts to be a fan of “my team”) is out for the season, but with my husband being big into fantasy football we’re still having Football Sunday’s at our house. I’m pairing my chocolate-covered potato chip footballs, chocolate drizzled pretzel rods, and popcorn together for the perfect sweet and salty football party treats!
Stop by your local grocery store to pick up your football party food and make your soon-to-be iconic chocolate covered potato chip footballs!
YUM!!! I might have to make these for the Super Bowl, my two favorites, chocolate and potato chips!!
They are ADDICTING!
Oh I have to try these! They look amazing! (client)
