My Big, Little Girl
I am now the Mommy to a four year old… what?! My Baby Bean is not such a baby. The spunky, determined, opinionated, witty personality that she has had her entire life has only become stronger in her four years of life. Yes, even as a baby she knew what could make people laugh and she loved to do it. Only now, she decides that if people have been laughing at her too long it’s time to “stop laughing at me!” hence, the opinionated part.
I feel so bad for this little lady, she was born during the worst week of my dance teaching career: the first week of classes. The poor kid has had a birthday party every-other year because some years I just plain have too much on my plate, as was the case this year. She might not have gotten a birthday cake, but she got a birthday cake donut with frosting and sprinkles which is just as good, right?
Lucky for her, my mommy guilt resulted in two separate birthday outings for her: one afternoon weekend at the “alien place” (aka Space Aliens Restaurant) and another afternoon weekend letting her pick out whatever toy she wanted within reason and lunch at the “etestrant” (Buffalo Wild Wings, it’s a long backstory).
Her pick for a toy? The Lookout from Paw Patrol. She already had the entire set of cars and their pups, it was the next logical step in the Paw Patrol set. Oh, and a fluffy Ryder. She REEEALLLY wanted a fluffy Ryder, and it was within the budget we set for her. You can see him laying on the couch in the photo above.
Though she may be four, she’s still holding on to bits of her threenager-isms. As is pictured above, her aversion to taking a nice photo with the new toy her non toy-buying parents just willingly bought her for her birthday. Considering the fact that I wouldn’t let people buy her toys for her 3rd birthday (yep, I was THAT mom) you would have thought she would obey my every picture taking wish for letting her shop the toy aisle at Target.

Despite the fact that she’s an only child and the first grandchild on both sides, I am dead set on not spoiling her. I’m pretty sure everyone around me is trying to thwart my efforts… 😉 I get it, it’s hard not to buy gifts for the only niece/granddaughter. She better enjoy it while it lasts.
Aww, happy birthday to your Bean! My little guy will be three in just a couple of weeks, so I am just entering the “Threenager” stage, eek! He also loves Paw Patrol, I’ll have to check those toys out. 🙂
Thanks Beth! Ah, the threenager stage. I remember it well lol Good luck!
