Mini Home Tour: Pastel Thrifted Home Office + Craft Room

This thrifted home office was put together with many repurposed/thrifted pieces made over with spray paint and some patience and searching through Amazon.

When you move into a new home, there tends to be a room that ends up being the “dump room”. I’m talking about the room that ends up acquiring all of the “I don’t know where this should go right now, put it in the room” and “I’ll get to it later, put it in the room” and the “I have no idea what to do with this and company is coming over, put it in the room and close the door.” stuff.

The “put it in the room” room was, until the last few weeks, my poor blogging room/home office/craft room. Everything that couldn’t be dealt with got put in “the room”. Whenever we needed to tidy up the house quick, all of the extra stuff got tossed in “the room”. If you saw my BEFORE photos of my office, this was quite evident.

I’ve been on a personal minimalism journey for the past few years. After feeling disgusted about the amount of stuff we owned when we sold our house and moved a little over a year ago. I’m finally feeling like we’re getting to a better place with our hoarding tendencies. But, my blogging room seemed like the remaining symbol of my personal hoarding issues.

After a few rounds of donation, a few rounds of garage and consignment sales, and a few rounds of paperwork recycling, I finally feel prepared to share my thrifted home office/blog room/craft room with you all.

I had two stipulations for completing my thrifted home office project: it had to look pretty and it had to be functional. I also wanted some wall art to represent my blog, the whole reason for having an office. I painted some paper mache letters white and mounted them on the wall.

Speaking of functional, I needed storage space for all of the crafting supplies and photo props. These square shelves and storage baskets were great for organizing my various random craft supplies, and the plastic organizer that I mounted on the back of the door was perfect for organizing my yarn.

I have learned to not pass up an ornate mirror at the thrift store. I found this mirror and gave it a coat of aqua spray paint to help reflect some light in my office.

One of the most important things for me was a comfy office chair that was also super cute. I was very specific about the kind of chair I wanted: aqua, tufted, velvet-y, wood accents, adjustable. I had to wait a few months until it was available again, but I found the PERFECT chair online. It was unavailable when I first tried to order it, but patience paid off.

Functional AND cute organization was very important to me in putting together my office. I found this desktop organizer at a thrift store for a few bucks and spray painted it mint. I also had an expandable organizer (I can’t help but buy these when I see them!) on hand that I spray painted pink to organize my washi tape.

There was one giant wall with an ugly fuse box in my office that I had no idea what to do with. I couldn’t use it for storage because it was partially behind my gigantic desk and the fuse box got in the way. Enter my favorite way to decorate a big wall: the tapestry. I live for the ocean, so when I found this tapestry through Society 6 I fell in love. And, it actually influenced the color scheme of my entire office.

If you want to put together a thrifted home office like mine, here’s exactly what you need to get started (a lot of the stuff I bought came from Amazon!):

It took lots of time and patience to put everything together (I searched for DAYS online for the perfect office chair), but in the end I am loving my blog office! It’s the perfect serene atmosphere to write and create 🙂
