The potty training saga [VLOG]

How to potty train your toddler.

This weekend we decided to tackle the uphill battle that is POTTY TRAINING. Duh duh DUUUUUH. After hours of research, off we went to gather the tools for our potty training arsenal…

  • Potty chart & stickers: for her to put a “happy face” sticker up every time she went in the potty.
  • Singing, light up potty: that plays jingles any time they go potty and simulates flushing. So necessary.
  • Cottonelle Clean Care routine: to keep this potentially messy situation clean.
  • Potty-specific toy: that will inevitably end up a “whatever time they want” toy.
  • Cookies: for bribery.

Don’t forget the big girl undies. We let Bean pick out any she wanted. I didn’t want to worry about having to do laundry in the middle of the chaos, so we ended up very well stocked. We had to make sure Cooper had a pair, too.

The Cottonelle Clean Care routine ended up being one of the most useful things in our potty training arsenal. The TP was used in the obvious manner (and at one point as a handy potty cleaner upper) and the flushable wipes were great to make sure Bean stayed clean and comfortable. When you’re using the “keep an eye on them until they start to go and then run like mad towards the potty” method, having a way to clean them up quickly is awesome. She even started to wipe herself on day two!

This whole ordeal is definitely a process. If you have a highly energetic, stubborn, and spirited child such as mine, there is no way that those “3 day potty training” weekends will work. We naively thought we may just emerge on Monday with a potty trained toddler. Go at your own pace. Follow your child’s lead. And for goodness sake, if they’re hysterically crying over the fact that they’re wearing underwear and not a diaper, throw in the towel and try again the next day.
