Project: de-lameify the bathroom
Despite my desperate attempt with re-painting the bathroom while I was 7 months pregnant, I still do not like our main bathroom. It’s an improvement from the “Dapper Tan” walls (that’s the name of the wall color in our house, I kid you not) but paint just wasn’t enough. I have had the same, lame wall art, a la IKEA, since I was living in my own apartment in my early twenties.
I was sick of seeing that stupid butterfly every day. So, I decided to make my own wall art. I had taken a trip to my favorite local salvage/antique store a few weeks back and found some awesome music posters that I knew I wanted somewhere in my house. Why not the bathroom?
The poster was an irregular size, I had a hard time finding a frame to fit it. So, I made my own out of balsa wood and baker’s twine. Problem solved.
It’s the base piece for what I’m hoping will turn into a wall of awesome. I’m currently working on a cross stitch portrait of Ron Swanson to join it. Anyone who has the pleasure of peeing in our bathroom is going to leave a better person.
That is what was left after the shelf I put up ripped itself out of the wall. Note to self: nails can not fill the need of screws. Sadly, our bathroom has been like this for months. I’m ashamed.
This framed artwork did a great job of covering the holes (shhh, don’t tell…) and bringing color to the room. This piece is by Chris Gray for the song Tonight by Lykke Li.
I can’t wait until it’s completed. I already feel better after taking that awful framed butterfly out of the room. I can now use the bathroom in peace.
I like the print! Glad the butterfly is no longer hauting you.

I tried to install a panel heater in our room, but the wall is so hard that I could drill the holes deep enough. I kinda gave up trying, so we have holes in the wall and there wasn't even anything 🙂 Those posters are very cool, especially the one next to the mirror.
omg, that ron swanson is amazing! i can't wait to see it finished!
Ha ha! The title of this is so funny. Cool idea on how to frame an irregularly sized print. I have a few too that I don't want to pay big $$ to have framed. Thanks!
