A Frugal Rhinestone Mini Christmas Tree DIY
Is there anything more Christmas-y than a ridiculous amount of bling? No, I don’t think there is 😉
When I spotted this paper mache tree at Hobby Lobby just begging to be blinged up, I knew it had to come home with me. I’ve found that trees already covered in rhinestones are usually more spendy, so I was on a mission to come up with a rhinestone mini Christmas tree DIY that wouldn’t break the bank.
Rhinestone Mini Christmas Tree DIY
Supplies
- Paper mache tree (find one similar here:Paper Mache Tree)
- Silver spray paint
- Iridescent crystal AB rhinestones
- Hot glue gun and hot glue sticks
I’ve used plenty of different brands and types of metallic spray paint, and Rust-Oleum Metallic Silver is the BEST. I’m also not usually a fan of the cheaper types of rhinestones (dance teacher Swarovski snob over here) but these iridescent crystal AB rhinestones are the prettiest and sparkliest (that’s a word, right?) ones I have ever used!
SHOP THE SUPPLIES
STEP ONE
Give the paper mache tree a coat of spray paint. I only did one because I knew I was going to be covering it with rhinestones and if it wasn’t perfectly covered that didn’t matter.
STEP TWO
Using the smaller rhinestones towards the tip, attach the rhinestones to the tree with a dab of hot glue. Don’t use too much because you don’t want glue spewing out from under each rhinestone mucking up the sparkle of the tree. After rhinestoning many things over the years of being a dance teacher, I think I’ve got this down to a science 😉
STEP THREE
Alternate smaller and bigger rhinestones working your way down the tree until the whole tree is covered.
I have 2 smaller paper mache trees just waiting to receive the same treatment. This tree is so sparkly and fun and it catches the light in such a beautiful way.
Whatcha waiting for? Put those crafty pants on, plug in your hot glue gun, and get to creating!
