Tutorial: Thrift Store Knick Knack Makeover
I have a thing for tacky knick knacks. I especially have a thing for tacky owl knick knacks. Sometimes I want to make them not so tacky with this little “trick”. Start off with your favorite piece of thrift store kitsch.
Give it a few coats of paint in whatever color you’d like. I used your typical cheapo acrylic paint. Let the paint dry thoroughly.
I wanted to add some “sheen” to the owl, so I mixed white (and later on, silver) glitter with Mod Podge.
Glamour shot of the glitter mixed with Mod Podge. Let your creation dry thoroughly.
Place your kitsch-tastic knick knack on display. Don’t forget to surround it with other odd items (ex. crystal skull bottle)
Love this!!
I love that 🙂 I'll have to go hunt down some ugly little owls, and give them some new life!
Bre! I love this. I will be keeping my eye out for knick knacks on my next trip. Thanks for the idea!

You did a great job Bre! Very creative. If you wish you could add this to the Creative Monday Blog Hop that I host. It is live from Sunday evening. I am big bird enthusiast and have a number of owls in my collection. Have a wonderful week.
Love this. I have had a thing for owls for a while now. I found two super cute owls at the thrift store and liked them so much more after I painted them white.

I love it! It's so pretty!!!
It's crazy what a little paint can do!
Haha she probably did.
I'll have to keep that hop in mind for next Sunday, thanks Judy!
Thank you 🙂
Such a great idea. I've been known to spray paint thrift store finds, but didn't think of using glitter. That's a gorgeous idea.
I'm definitely going to be doing it to more pieces, super easy and super pretty 🙂
sweet makeover on your thrift store owl. 🙂 I love what paint can do!
